2009 Newsletter #1

November 22, 2006
The 2006 shooting season has come to close. It has been one heckuva year. Since the end of the 2005 season we have accomplished the following:
  • Rejuvenated the WVPPS webpage in January.
  • Significant range improvements which greatly enhanced our ability to run our monthly club matches were completed in February.
  • Level I RO Seminar in March.
  • Berm Aid in April.
  • Built and ran a stage at the state section match in June.
  • Obtained the "War Wagon" in July.
  • Sent four shooters to the Limited/Limited 10/Revolver Nationals in September.
  • Sent one shooter to the Open/Production Nationals in October.
  • Held our second annual banquet/awards ceremony in November.
We are looking forward to another great year in 2007 - including hosting our state section championship!

See you at the range!

It's been another landmark month for WVPPS. WVPPS held its first "big" match in many years when it hosted Berm Aid I. This fundraiser exceeded expectations in many areas, but especially in re-filling the depleted coffers of our club. While the weather was poor (to say the least), by all accounts the match was well-received by the competitors in attendance and a good time was had by all.

To all of the participants, thank you for participating in our match.  Despite less than ideal weather conditions, you ventured out into the elements and had fun anyway - a testament to your general lack of sanity (we like that, by the way).  Our goal was to provide a fun and challenging test of shooting skills.  From you comments it appears we were successful.

I want to especially thank Aron Bright for his outstanding effort as co-match director, Joseph Viray (the Rhino) not only for his excellent job at stats but for his behind the scenes effort and the practical joke he pulled two days before the match (with the help of Coach Bright), and Jake Martens for securing a prize table beyond all expectations.

Also deserving of recognition are our setup, tear down and RO staff listed below.  For many of them it was their first experience at working a "big match" and they came through like the troopers that they are:

Marc Brock
Brian Flinn
Jim St. Charles
Jason St. Charles
Aron Bright
Jane Ball
Jackson Ball
Bryan Ball
Steve Wright
James Starn
Greg Settle
Brad Settle
Kevin Harder
Mike Thompson
David Dillier
Brian Randall
Mark Butler
Roger Butler
Andy Gondeck

See you at the range!

It's been quite a month for WVPPS. On the 19th we not only held our first match of the year, but it was also our first match since the range improvements were completed. At our last match in November, we set up 5 stages in 3 shooting areas. This month we set up 6 stages in 6 separate shooting bays! Viva le difference!

A week later on March 25-26, 13 attendees participated in a Level I RO Seminar at Riley. Participants traveled from as far away as Fort Wayne to earn their Level I certifications. Lead by instructor Jay Worden and instructor trainee George Jones, the following people completed the course:

Jane Ball
Jackson Ball
Aron Bright
Chris Land
Marc Brock
Todd Crageo
Brian Flinn
Stephanie Flinn
Brian Randall
Russ Bensinger
Jeremiah Laughner
Jim St. Charles
Jason St. Charles

Be sure to congratulate these folks on their accomplishment the next time you see them!

Finally, preparations are well under way for our big match, Berm Aid I, on April 30. Stage descriptions are posted on this site (select "Match Stages" from the menu bar at the left). If you plan on shooting the match, I encourage you to submit an application with match fees as soon as possible. We will have to limit the number of shooters due to the one-day format and submitting your application in advance of match day will guarantee your spot in the match!

WVPPS News:

NEW PRESIDENT:

Those who attended today's match know this, but for those who were not able to make it, James Starn resigned as WVPPS president today.  We'd like to thanks James for all of his hard work and dedication to the club over the last couple of years.

The WVPPS Executive Committee has appointed David Ball as interim president.  Many of you know David as the match director at WVPPS. We're excited to enter into a new phase in the history of the Wabash Valley Practical Pistol Shooters.

ELECTIONS:

We will have formal elections before the match in April to elect president, vice president, and secretary-treasurer.   Current office holders are:

David Ball - interim president

Joseph Viray - vice president

Joe Everly - secretary-treasurer

Only current WVPPS members may vote in the elections or hold office, so if you want to have a voice in how the club is run, please join soon!  All members should attend the shooters' meeting at the April match to vote, even if they can't stay for the match.
